Welcome to my UA-cam channel. I'm Brett Weiss, author of 12 books, including the Classic Home Video Games series, The 100 Greatest Console Video Games: 1977-1987, and The SNES Omnibus. My latest is The NES Omnibus: The Nintendo Entertainment System and Its Games, Volume 1 (A-L). I like video games and other aspects of pop culture. A lot. And I enjoy talking about them. I've been gaming since 1975 and writing professionally about video games and pop culture since 1997. My latest venture is called Tales from a Retro Gamer, a UA-cam series where I discuss the history of gaming from a personal standpoint. Things like my first video game, rare finds I've made, conventions I've attended, famous gamers I've met, the first time I played the NES, and more. I also do pop culture tours and gamer interviews. Enjoy!

I Sold My Record & CD Collection and Got Spotify. Do I Regret it?
I sold my record and CD collection and got Spotify. Do I regret it? I discuss why I sold it, how much I got for a couple of the albums and show off a few that I kept. I love physical media and collecting, so it was a tough choice to make. Welcome to another episode of Tales from a Retro Rocker!

There were tons of insanely rare retro video games at Classic Game Fest in Austin, Texas this year, including titles for the Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, NES and more, including boxed games for the Atari 2600 and TurboGrax-16. I even saw some rare CD-i and Commodore 64 CIB games. Lots of holy grails, many very expensive. CGF is one of my favorite video game conventions. Enjoy ...

5 Things Retro Gaming Stores Get Right

5 Things Retro Gaming Stores Get Right. I recently complained in a couple of videos about what video game stores get wrong, so I decided to focus on five positives, such as what you might find at Game Over Videogames. Thanks to Metal Jesus Rocks for inspiring the idea to begin with. Every retailer should follow these practices when possible. Check out my retro game store fails video: ua-cam.com...

The Dark Side Of Video Games: When Fun Becomes Addiction
Zillion , phantasy star, Alex Kidd in miracle world, wonder boy in monster land , rocky, choplifter and so many more but those games there really take me back to 15-16. I still play them to this day. Great memories.
Just played Galaga 90 today and loved it
I cant remember what year it was at texas jam but i believe poison was playing and a guy climbed up the sound tower and mooned 90,000 people. If anyone else remembers this let me know what year that was. Please thanks
Most of the arcade conversion where great I had to mail in proof of purchases but got double dragon and power something for free what was that 1987 or 89?😊
Power strike , I got Reggie Jackson baseball through mail played the hell out of it.
Would love to see set up in new motor and playlist!
That absolutely IS the best picture of Gene ever!
The only records I'll never part with are my KISS albums, which I had to repurchase after having lost my 1000+ music collection in a nasty divorce back in 2000. I signed up for Spotify Premium about 5 months ago as I know I'll never have the funds to rebuild my old collection, and after years of listening to Spotify with commercials I just couldn't take the breaks anymore. I am also an album-oriented listener, and having random commercials pop up between, say, Dark Side of the Moon tracks was just too much to bear. 😂
Man, I wish I can get more Atari 2600 or 7800 games. I could've looked at that booth for a while. Especially for the 1st Star Wars title for 2600.
I would be more inclined to collect for the Saturn but all the games are ludicrously expensive
@@sTaGbEEtLeBanDIt- Yeah, it’s gotten crazy! I bought most of mine for $3.99 each at Movie Trading Company years ago
@@BrettWeissRetroGamer so incredible 😳😳😳
I remember the sounds Mouse Trap made to this day, and the eagle would suddenly fly across and you were done. Wish I'd kept the Colecovision we had...
I miss my CDs but streaming is just so freaking convenient I don’t think I could go back. Only way I could is if I had more money than sense and more room than I would ever need, and needed to take up a bit collecting hobby like that to take up space and time with. I do UA-cam music instead because it is included with UA-cam premium, so no ads! I know there’s adblcokers but I generally watch on my phone so that isn’t an option, plus I rather not contribute to content creators I like watching not getting asshare from my views.
Collected records and cds most of my life. It ain't perfect, but once I got Spotify, I never looked back. Aside, I met you at Torg last year. 🤙
@@jupitermenace9920 Cool, thanks for watching!
Brett!!! You have gravitated to the darkside... You are now on the HIGHWAY to HELL!!!
When can I start buying the Swiftie merch at The Time Machine!?! My family and I always love seeing what new items you have in your booth when we stop by!
Cool!
Spotify sucks Apple Music sucks 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢 it’s all about physical media cds 💿 and records better sound quality u own the music and u suppoort the artist
I find there's so much stuff that isn't on Spotify (or the other streaming sites), I'll never get rid of my collection.
Very cool you met WASP back then. Longtime fan. I hung out with Godsmack a dew times, followed them all over New England for 3 years before even Boston radio picked up on them
Awesome, great band!
@@BrettWeissRetroGamer was lucky enough to finally see them 2 years ago. They're touring this year too. Wish the Mean Man was still playing with Blackie
I use Spotify Premium myself for years, I'm happy with it. I also sold my record collection years ago... I just didn't have any decent way to play them with anymore.
I have about 1500 CDs and use them constantly. Most of my listening is in my truck so records wouldn't be a good investment for me. Not sure re streaming as I have none of them, I can see convenience re Apple car Play though. I like so much obscure stuff like old hardcore that probably won't be easily found. Plus I have an aftermarket system so streaming might have less quality over a CD
The Ozzy stuff has to be money especially if they're the original ones, before they redubbed some of the instruments
Never knew you were a Swiftie, Brett hahaha
lol, thanks Spotify!
Phew. You kept the Ozzies. Carry on, sir.
Cool shirt!

That book was the first time I ever saw your name. 😂
Do you have contact with the guy at the booth. I want to purchase the Intellivion newsletter.
I’ll see if I can get in touch with him next week
I know if someone had these graded and displayed 🧐. Their a die hard RE fan ☠️ and that they have complete in box copies of the game also to play 💚 That RE gamecube collection just looks so Crisp😱! They POP!!!🎉🧠🧟♀️!!! (like your first headshot with the shotgun at the Spencer mansion💥💀) Off the wall with their Masterpiece of Survival Horror essences 😮😈
Hooooowwwww did you come to obtain original art from this!? That is so freakn cool.
@@rylch44 It was auctioned through Heritage
I'm gonna get my first gameboy color here
I got a chance to play it there too, super fun game!
Dude, over explaining things. We got he was stressed the first time. You are repeating things over and over . Get to the point.
Too late now 😉
Thanks.
Just randomly came across a review from the gaming historian of Pats book Ultimate Guide to the NES library. In the video he states that he wrote an article for the book and was not paid/compensated for it. Very hypocritical of Pat to slander you for this.
@@TheBlacksheep agreed
I collect mostly Japanese Saturn games because they’re cheaper. I like to play Marvel VS Street Fighter, my only American game Christmas nights, die hard arcade, I really want street fighter alpha 3 for Saturn but holy shit it’s expensive 😂
No doubt!
In the name of Brett Weiss’s Honor I will challenge Pat the NES punk to fist Kombat when I encounter him at a con very soon. His utter disregard for Bretts art, and yes his writing is a work of art, is disturbing. Pat will get what he deserves, IN YOUR HONOR BRETT.
@@user-tk2hl4fz2l If you see Pat at a con, be nice, at least for the sake of the convention promoters.
@@BrettWeissRetroGamer I have every book you ever made Brett, I followed your writing BEFORE you were on youtube BRETT. FOR YOUR HONOR, I shall strike at PAT. I will make sure to tell him you send your regards as the challenge is made!

8:10 One of the original Intellivision unreleased Keyboard Component software titles - that's gotta fetch a high price for sure!
Been here I like getting Pokemon and games
The Intellivision He Man was a Brazilian import (as were all the Intellivision games in that bin). The old school JerryG guide is almost impossible to find.
Tapper is best on the arcade. Definitely a great one! So much cool stuff at that one booth. Oh that watch! And those promo items.
Were there any NEO GEO retailers selling rare NEO GEO games? I was on my way to the show until the CloudStrike thing happened.
Not many Neo games
I like it when you say or show the prices, just for informational reasons. I realize that many games are displayed such that you can’t see the price tags. But when the tags ARE shown, you might pause for just a moment to show. Lots of us want to know just how much stuff goes for at these conventions.
I buy from this guy every year at CGF, always has good stuff.
Awesome stuff!!
I never owned an Atari 2600 I started gaming on a Magnavox Odyssey 2 in 1978 I bought my games from a local Electronic & Appliance store that sold Magnavox TV's etc. I had a few friends that had the 2600 at the time 😊
I was an odyssey 2 guy too
Nice!
Looks amazing
